How long have you been a member at Cave CrossFit?

August 2016. I've been doing CF for about 5 years.

How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle, level of fitness?

Besides CrossFit, I feel like I've never quite fit with any other type of sport or group exercise. Step Aerobics is a very close second, but going to CrossFit and training is my favorite part of my day, and I'm always a little disappointed when i have to leave. I take pride in how much effort and dedication I put into my training. and think how people work out says a lot about their character deep within.

What is your athletic background?

I was pretty awful at sports, I'm totally ok with admitting that. I played field hockey and water polo throughout high school and also played one year of rugby in college. I started playing water polo my freshman year, not because I knew a single thing about water polo, but because my friend and I wanted to prove a point. Girls could play water polo, just like the guys, forcing them to make the water polo team co-ed. A year later, they created the first girls water-polo team at my high school.

Favorite WOD:

Favorite Lift/Movement:

Bench Press and HSPU. My heart flutters a bit when i see either of these movements.

Least Favorite WOD:

Fight Gone Bad

Least Favorite Lift/Movement:

Wall Balls

What are your proudest achievements?

Getting my first ring MU, which also happened to be strict. I dedicated months to working on MU transitions that I finally got it. My first MU was during the open of 2015, about a month after I had foot surgery, so I had to take off my giant walking boot before gently getting up on the rings.

Name one goal and/or personal record you would like to accomplish through CrossFit?

I have an excel spreadsheet of the UTE CrossFit team 2013 standards posted on my fridge at home. Whenever i get closer or hit my goal, I mark it on my chart. While the standards are probably pretty outdated, It's still a nice reminder that everyday is a new opportunity to get closer to my goals.

Any advice for someone thinking about trying CrossFit or someone who has just started?

CF is a franchise, so not all CF are made equal. If the other members are lifting heavy and super fast, don't be intimidated, this is actually a good thing! This means the coaching and programming is good, and if you stick with it, you will get there too.

For those who just started: This is your hour to not think about what's happening at home, worry about work or anything that's going on in the world. Clear your mind, stop thinking, don't make excuses. Listen to your coach- this is your hour to do something for yourself.
