February Athlete Spotlight: Lauren Poppenhagen

Lauren's fairly new to Cave but definitely no stranger to CrossFit! Whether she's tackling back-to-back classes or crushing Saturday partner WODs, Lauren always does it with a smile! Meet our February athlete, Lauren Poppenhagen!

How long have you been a member at Cave CrossFit?

Since November 2016. But I’ve been doing CrossFit on and off for about 3 years.

How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle, level of fitness?

I feel so much stronger both mentally and physically. I find that I carry the “mental toughness” aspect of CrossFit into my everyday life. Plus, I remember when I could barely clean 90#- now that feels light to me!

What is your athletic background?

I swam competitively in high school and all four years of college.

Favorite WOD:

Murph- it’s tough but I love the challenge.

Favorite Lift/Movement:

I know that this is an unpopular opinion…but I really love burpees!

Squat snatches. It can be a little intimidating throwing that much weight over your head.

What are your proudest achievements?

My proudest achievement (so far) is swimming/training 15-20 hours a week throughout high school and college and still graduating Cum Laude.

Name one goal and/or personal record you would like to accomplish through CrossFit?

I want to be able to RX the workouts on a more regular basis.

Any advice for someone thinking about trying CrossFit or someone who has just started?

CrossFit may seem intimidating, but it is truly a community like no other. Just show up and give it your best effort!
