May Athlete Spotlight: Brian Kim

Meet our May athlete, Brian Kim! He's been upping his game, hitting double days, and is probably the fastest air squatter we've ever seen!

Age: 27

Profession: Molecular Biologist

How long have you been a member at Cave CrossFit?

It’s been almost a year now.

How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle, level of fitness?

I was active in high school, but as I got older things went downhill for me. I became too focused on school and work that I began to lose track on my physical well being. I was stress eating and drinking quite often, and exercising was pretty much non-existent. But ever since I joined the Cave, I’ve been motivated by the community to get improve myself not just physically but mentally as well. I feel a lot stronger and energized, and a lot happier.

What is your athletic background?

I swam and did martial arts in high school.

Favorite WOD:

Anything that makes me sweat like crazy.

Favorite Lift/Movement:

Cleans and squats.

Least Favorite WOD:

Any WODS with wall balls...I literally have to jump to get the ball over the black line.

Least Favorite Lift/Movement:

Snatches, but I’m improving.

What are your proudest achievements?

My proudest moment was when I was able to backsquat more than 2x my weight. It was a testament that I was getting a lot stronger from last year.

Name one goal and/or personal record you would like to accomplish through CrossFit?

It's sort of embarrassing, but I would like to get my double unders down. I still can’t do one.

Any advice for someone thinking about trying CrossFit or someone who has just started?

Just give it a shot. I was hesitant to try at first, but now I have no regrets joining CrossFit.
