Brian Jaffe & Zee Brod are both homegrown Angelinos who live and love CrossFit. Both of them have had a long history on their quest to put health and fitness into their lives, but until they discovered CrossFit they did not truly know what it meant to put their life into health and fitness. They decided to embark on the journey of opening Cave CrossFit after a coffee shop conversation that started as an intangible pursuit. They soon realized that they both shared an unyielding passion for helping and guiding others on their path to self-improvement. After receiving their Level-1 Certifications, they began training friends wherever they could and eventually converted a rented 400sq-ft garage into their haven, their temple, their Cave. After only three months of operation, Cave CrossFit officially affiliated and moved to their new 1800sf home at 7773 Beverly Blvd.
WHY CAVE CROSSFIT
Progress. There are not many opportunities in life to gauge one's progress. Whether it be in careers, relationships, wealth, or fitness, it is often difficult to measure progress until one is able to look back and reflect down the road. However, in CrossFit, we are afforded the ability to see progress, both physical and mental, on a monthly, weekly, and even daily basis. Conquering the impossible, finding and breaking limitations, constantly striving for excellence--all of these characteristics translate from the box to the human condition. As CrossFitters and now trainers, we have experienced all of these things first hand and quiet simply, we want to help make you better. We focus on our clients complete health and fitness through world-class training, nutritional education, and providing you with all the necessary tools to achieve your goals. We are a premier training facility that is known for our physical prowess as much as our knowledge of how to achieve that fitness. We have a community, tight knit in their common goals, diverse in their expertise but always striving for excellence.
ALLEGORY OF THE CAVE
The Cave is derived from Plato's "Allegory of The Cave" from his philosophical tome, The Republic. In this story, a group of prisoners have lived chained to the wall of a cave all of their lives, facing a blank wall. The people watch shadows projected on the wall by objects passing in front of a fire behind them, and begin to ascribe forms to these shadows. According to Plato, the shadows are as close as the prisoners get to viewing reality. He then explains how the philosopher is like a prisoner who is freed from the cave and comes to understand that the shadows on the wall do not make up reality at all, as he can perceive the true form of reality rather than the mere shadows seen by the prisoners. The Cave is an attempt to explain the philosopher's place in society: to attempt to enlighten the "prisoners". Likewise, as coaches, we are like the philosophers on a quest to enlighten the masses about true health and fitness rather than the shadows on the wall displaying fatal diets and sedentary lifestyles. We want our friends, family, and members, to be freed from the shackles of physical oppression and leave our box, our Cave, stronger, faster, and healthier then when they arrived.
